Description

This artisan-crafted pure copper grater comes with a stainless steel tray and colander. Its weight and stability allow you to grate incredibly smoothly by simply moving it back and forth without exerting any force. It doesn't break the fibers of the ingredients, so you can enjoy grated daikon radish with a smooth texture. The included tray allows you to cook without making a mess.

Materials & Care

Materials

  • Grater: Pure copper (tin-plated) Box and mesh: 18-8 stainless steel

Care

After use, rinse it promptly with water and do not use a cloth (as fibers will get caught in the blade). Instead, pour hot water over it and dry it using the residual heat. If vegetable fibers are difficult to remove, it is convenient to rinse them off with an old toothbrush. If the blade becomes dull, you can have it resharpened by a craftsman (for a fee).

About the workshop

Oya Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Saitama Prefecture

Oya Seisakusho, located in Wako City, Saitama Prefecture, continues to make copper graters using techniques handed down since ancient times. Craftsmen hammer the copper plates to harden them, then manually sharpen each blade. These slightly uneven blades are the secret to smoothly grating ingredients without having to turn them. They can also be sharpened by scraping off the old blade and creating a new one, creating tools that can be used for a lifetime and passed down from parent to child, and from child to grandchild.
