Description

This long, box-shaped basket bag has a cute, rounded look. Its height is modest, but its wide gusset means it has more storage capacity than it looks. Its wide opening makes it easy to put things in and take them out, making it a convenient size. Japanese wild grape vines are extremely durable, and the longer they are used, the more they develop a rich, lustrous luster.

Care

Store in a well-ventilated place. Do not use oils (such as walnut oil) for polishing. To achieve a beautiful shine, gently rub with your hands or scrub with a scouring pad.
About the workshop

About the workshop

Michinoku Vine Crafts Factory, Yamagata Prefecture
Each bag is carefully handcrafted by artisan Takagi Shoji in his workshop in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. The wild grape vines used are harvested by Takagi himself from the local mountains, and while imported wild grape vines are comparable in strength to paper, domestically grown wild grape vines are so strong they are likened to rubber. The more they are used, the more lustrous they become and the smoother they become, making them a "lifetime item" that can be passed down through three generations. Harvesting wild grape vines is a life-threatening task, but Takagi weaves them with love, saying, "The basket bags I make from these are like my own daughters."
