Some of the workshop's customers have young grandchildren begging them to let them use the basket bags when they grow up.
"The wild grape vines are something that your child can enjoy until she becomes an old woman, with the flavor improving. And her child's children can still use them (laughs)," says Takagi.
At the workshop, we were shown a wild grape vine basket bag (photo below) that was made over 100 years ago and was originally used for picking wild vegetables.As it adjusted to the curves of the user's back, it became more and more flexible, with an ever-more beautiful luster and a richer character.

We go into the mountains of Tohoku to collect the sturdy wild grapes that are unique to Japan, and then we make each bag carefully and with all our heart.
