"Iwate is cold, so the cultivation period is longer than in warmer places. This allows the broom grass to mature, become stronger, and become more durable. You can tell the difference as soon as you try sweeping," says producer Takakura.

Takakura's brooms were also featured on the TV program "Takeshi's Nippon no Mikata!" (aired on November 7, 2014), and received a great response.

◎How to use
The Nanbu broom uses its unique curled tip to sweep away debris.
This curl not only cleans tatami mats and hardwood floors, but also lint, hair, pet hair, and cigarette ash that have become tangled in rugs and carpets.
Depending on how you use it, a Nanbu broom can last for decades. It's a little different from a regular broom in that one key to using it for a long time is to take good care of the bristles.
The trick to sweeping is to sweep along the grain of the material, such as tatami mats and fabrics, without applying too much force. When sweeping, you can sweep by gently moving the tip of the brush. Sweeping rhythmically with a consistent rhythm will help you sweep well.
1. Nanbu brooms can last for decades depending on how they are used.
2. If you use the broom only in the same direction, it will become bent, so try to use it in both directions as much as possible.
3. Avoid pressing too hard and bending the tip as this will damage the tip.
4. Never hit the broom with the corner of an object to remove dirt from it. This also applies to bedding.
5. When not in use, hang it up or stand it up with the tip facing up.
◎Maintenance
To maintain a Nanbu broom, if the tips become dirty, rinse them for 2-3 minutes in lukewarm water or water with a mild detergent. If the tips become bent, they will straighten out. Even if the tips become dirty or brittle, do not cut them.
If the tip becomes brittle and breaks, soak it in salt water similar to seawater (about 30g of salt per 1 liter of water) for about half a day.
After that, dry it in the shade in a well-ventilated place. (This is ideal for caring for it during the cold months of January and February.)
