About the workshop
Miyagawa Brush Factory, Tokyo
Miyagawa Hake Brush Factory, with its workshop in Moto-Asakusa, Tokyo, has been carrying on traditional Edo techniques for over 90 years since its founding in 1921. The techniques of its predecessor, who has been recognized as a Contemporary Master Craftsman and a Tokyo Metropolitan Traditional Craftsperson, are now passed down to third-generation Miyagawa Kumiko. The company's techniques are also used in the brick restoration work at Tokyo Station, making it a renowned shop highly trusted by professionals. The brushes are made using carefully selected natural bristles, with the quality and quantity of bristles adjusted to suit the purpose, resulting in a feel that sets them apart from machine-made products. The more you use them, the more they become familiar to you, and they are highly regarded by enthusiasts both in Japan and overseas as "authentic" tools that can be used for a long time.
